Philippines, 2013

Location: Philippines, Ormoc, Tacloban

Date: November & December 2013

Incident: Typhoon Haiyan

No. of People Affected:

No. of Clarion Team members deployed: 32

Achievements: Field hospital, leadership with City health department. Outreach teams. 2 x EIHK deployed.

In November Clarion sent a small team of emergency responders from the USA and UK to the Philippines to provide essential Humanitarian Aid to the worse hit areas.

Our action plan was to focus and assist in Tacloban which is the worse hit of the most difficult to access regions. However on arriving in the Philippines we discovered that many of the people displaced from Tacloban relocated to Ormac, which was then saturated and its infrastructure was unable to cope with demand. Our team quickly established themselves with the City’s Department of Health and was instrumental in planning and co-ordinating the delivery of both supplies and medical support within the city and its surrounding areas. Clarion was able to setup a field hospital , and once demand was shared between other organisations on the ground, found themselves travelling to other difficult to reach areas that had not received any medical attention. The team walked for over 2 hours with medical supplies and in extreme heat and humidity to reach those that desperately needed medical support. Clarion was successful in deploying six rotations of teams made up doctors, paramedics, Nurses and EMTs throughout November and December.

Once the teams pulled out, Clarion still supported the City Department of Health by sending additional medical supplies for them to distribute accordingly.
